About Lagniappe Lactation
Meet Jamie
Hello and welcome! My name is Jamie Raziano Ortiz, RN, IBCLC. I am the founder and owner of Lagniappe Lactation LLC. Thank you so much for being here!
I knew from a very young age that I wanted to be a "baby nurse" so that's what I did. I graduated from Charity School of Nursing in New Orleans in 2008 and began working as a Registered Nurse in the Mother/Baby unit. I then became an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) in 2016, credentialed by the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners. I am also an experienced childbirth and breastfeeding class instructor.
Lagniappe Lactation was born to bring the services, attention, care and support you need and deserve in the comfort of your own home! Lagniappe (lan-yap) is a Cajun-French inspired word often used to describe something good. It means a little extra. I chose this name because I believe in providing my clients that little something extra. My heart and soul goes into everything I do. I truly care about the clients I work for.

I am a mom of 2 boys so I know first hand how challenging the transition into parenthood can be. It's definitely not all rainbows and butterflies. But it doesn't have to stay that way!
Whether it be infant feeding difficulties, caring for a newborn, mom-guilt, or adjusting to changes in yourself during the postpartum period, the right support can help you enjoy your experience and meet your goals! Many times mothers don't know where to turn or feel nervous about being judged or forced into something. Maybe you had a bad experience with others in healthcare. Inattentive nurse? Pushy and aggressive lactation consultant? Let me assure you that is not my approach! I am dedicated to ensuring you receive the care and assistance you need in a gentle, compassionate, guilt-free, non- judgemental way. I believe being informed, educated, empowered, and supported is best. Your goals are my goals!

The International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) is a member of the maternal-child healthcare team with specialized skills in breastfeeding care and management. The IBCLC credential is the highest certification and the only internationally recognized credential in the field of lactation.
Research has shown improved breastfeeding outcomes when mothers and infants receive the services of IBCLCs. While many training courses provide certificates of completion for lactation training, the IBCLC is the Gold Standard of Care.
